Meet Courtney

Meet Courtney, from Mosaic Christian Church in Baltimore (right, with Louis and Yolandi Scheepers, lead planters of Pro Deo Church in Cape Town, South Africa).

After college, Courtney found herself in a toxic relationship and drowning in credit card debt.  She was unhappy, but didn’t know where to turn.  Her sister invited her to Mosaic Christian Church, and Courtney started to attend.  Repeatedly, the sermons were relevant to the issues that she was dealing with that week.  The Biblical messages were providing hope for change. "God would even use the music to speak to my issues.  What I was hearing and learning helped me to trust God," Courtney said.

Courtney was baptized by her sister.  She got honest about her debt, which freed her from the burden of keeping it secret.  Her new budget plan has her finances moving in a good direction.  Courtney now has different standards for future relationships, including friendships.  She became part of the church greeting team, and she even began leading other new believers!

Courtney was one of the volunteers from Mosaic to serve at Pro Deo’s launch.  She wanted to be a part of a service team after hearing her sister’s experience serving at Elevate Community Church in Ireland (also an Orchard Group plant).  The experience was an eye-opening one! The amount of work and effort it takes to get to launch Sunday was entirely new for Courtney.  Seeing Louis and Yolandi’s vision for the church come to fruition gave her a lot of joy.  “Louis and Yolandi started with nothing, just a vision of what might be possible in Cape Town.  It took two years for that vision to become a reality.”

Motivating her desire to be a part of Mosaic’s serving team to Cape Town, Courtney said, “I wanted to be a part of something starting from the ground up.  And five years from now it will be satisfying to know that I played a small part in something that is flourishing.”

People in cities like Cape Town, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Osaka are finding and growing closer to God through churches started through Orchard Group. As city populations surge, let’s make sure that churches are growing where people are going! #PeopleMatterToGod
