As The World Becomes More Urban, So Must The Church

When Orchard Group was established in 1948, the percentage of the world population living in cities was 30%. Today, more than 50% of the world lives in cities. By 2050, projections are that 70% will live in cities.

When Orchard Group was started, there were only two cities — New York and London — with a metro population of over 10 million. Today there are 25 global cities with populations ranging from 10 to more than 30 million. Who will start churches in these strategic locations?

As the world becomes more urban, so must the church! We believe God has prepared Orchard Group “for such a time as this.”  Through our Global Cities Initiative, Orchard Group will start 10 churches in 10 global cities in the next 5 years.

With your help, and the help of thousands of others, our goal through the Global Cities Initiative is to raise $1.5 million to recruit, assess, train, and send the next ten church planters to global cities. The first three churches to be planted through this initiative are already determined.

Of course, we will continue starting churches here in the U.S., as well. We already know that new churches will launch this year in the Lake Nona neighborhood of Orlando, Florida and in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. We’re confident that more opportunities like these will arise.

You can join us! Donate now towards the Global Cities Initiative. Your contribution makes more churches in strategic cities possible.
