The Global Cities Initiative

The Global Cities Initiative

Today, over half of the global population lives in cities. By 2050, it is projected that around 70% of the world's population will live in cities. We are in the midst of a massive global urbanization, and the world's growing cities need the gospel. As the world becomes more urban, so must the church.

The statistics behind the trend of global urbanization are staggering. Data found in the New York Times, Center Church by Tim Keller, and City Lab by The Atlantic capture this trend. These sources show that in 1950, 750 million people (approximately 30% of the world's population) lived in cities. In 2013, that number was up to 3.5 billion people, making up roughly 50% of the world's population. By 2050, it's estimated that figure will have increased to 7.6 billion, or around 70% of the world's population.

Orchard Group is committed to establishing churches in global cities, that Jesus might increasingly be known and worshipped in these places of significant influence. The Global Cities Initiative was established out of this priority. Through the Global Cities Initiative, we hope to raise $1.5 million in order to establish ten churches in ten global cities in the next five years.

We invite you to partner with us to establish more churches in global cities.
